Kargil Vijay Diwas: Kargil Vijay Diwas is an occasion to honor and remember the bravery and valor of the Indian Armed Forces. On this day many programs are organized across the country to pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the protection of the country.
Kargil Vijay Diwas: July 26, this is the date which India will never forget for its ‘victory’ and Pakistan for its ‘defeat’. Enemy soldier sitting at a height of 16 thousand feet was sitting carefree in the Indian territory after occupying the hills of Kargil. But in front of the enthusiasm, passion and patriotism of the Indian soldiers, neither the 16 thousand feet high hill nor the minus 10 degree mercury stood.
On July 26, 1999, after the war that lasted for almost three months, the slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ were resounding with the tricolor flag on the same hills. Every year on July 26, Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated across the country. Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of courage, valor, and valor of the Indian Army. This day is a day to celebrate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the Kargil war fought against Pakistan.
It is celebrated to pay tribute and honor to the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers of the 1999 Kargil war, who did not even care about their lives to save the ‘asmat’ of their land. The operation during the war is also known as ‘Operation Vijay’ and the date of that glorious victory is celebrated as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’. This year the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated.
Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023: History
May 1999, in this month Pakistan tried to occupy Indian territory. Pakistani troops intruded into Indian territory in the Kargil district of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir (now the Union Territory of Ladakh). The first infiltration was reported by local herders on May 3, 1999. On 08 May 1999, the Indian Army started ‘Operation Vijay’. Operation Vijay aimed to capture Indian territory along the LoC, which was occupied by Pakistani infiltrators. The Indian Air Force carried out an airstrike on 26 May under ‘Operation Safed Sagar’ to support the Indian Army.
On 26 July 1999, the Indian Army declared Operation Vijay a success after recapturing all military posts occupied by Pakistani infiltrators in Kargil. In this war, 527 brave soldiers of India were martyred, 1363 soldiers were injured. At the same time, more than 700 Pakistani soldiers had died.
Kargil Vijay Diwas 2023: Significance
Kargil Vijay Diwas is an occasion to honor and remember the bravery and valor of the Indian Armed Forces. On this day many programs are organized across the country to pay tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives for the protection of the country. Many events, parades and celebrations are organized across the country to express gratitude and respect to the heroes of the Kargil war. However, the main ceremony is held at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, Ladakh. This year also a two-day ceremony has been organized by the Indian Army on 25 and 26 July at the Kargil War Memorial.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh attended the program as the chief guest on Wednesday. Cultural programmes, parades and performances by army bands also mark the celebrations. This year, the central government has also planned a year-long program to celebrate the silver jubilee of Kargil Vijay Diwas next year.
